Profile Details - In world contact

Understandably hiding SL names may not be your vision of your product, so maybe a suggestion, just to aid in cutting down the number of soliciting IMs some of us are getting.

I suggest some kind of indication on our profiles, whether it a badge, or simple traffic light type thing with a green or red light, just to voice whether or not we welcome contact in world. Maybe the toggle for it in settings so it isnt permanent.

I actually really like this compromise~ It gives people a warning and if they cross that line. then anything that happens after that is on them.

candirayne Resident Exactly!! The fact that our IW names are forced to be displayed just sucks. I have a friend who uses an alternative avatar because whenever she leaves her platform, she has to worry about copybotters. I wont name this person but she's a very prominent and well known artist on here and Flickr. Not only are we subject to harassment inworld without the ability to hide our legacy names, but now we're being opened up to people using online trackers on us, and copybotters knowing who to look for.

Sadly, some people just suck and they can ruin things for everyone else. Thats why some of us are more comfortable with letting the developers be the only ones who can see our IW names if we want to choose to make ours private.

AspenRenee Resident Absolutely, I completely agree with you. The forced display of our in-world names is a major issue. It's not just about the harassment we face in-world without the ability to hide our legacy names, but also about the increased risk of online trackers and copybotters targeting us. Some people can indeed ruin the experience for everyone else. This is why many of us feel more secure if the developers are the only ones who can see our in-world names, allowing us the choice to keep ours private. It’s a necessary step to ensure our safety and privacy in this digital space.

Sadly a red light badge will just work as a reverse filter. It will keep out decent people that we might be fine reaching us IW and will do nothing for the ones seeing us as NPCs for their sexual fantasies or worse.

Those who state they want to remain annonymous because the fear of being “copied” need to just remain off primfeed and not have an account. Hiding names kind of just takes away what primfeed is and how it connects SL users and Primfeed together. And lets not forget.. if people can be annonymous.. im sure that would create a whole load of other problems for others too.
