Following vs subscribing to a store

Following adds a person's or store's posts to your Following feed on Primfeed, while subscribing to a store signs your Second Life avatar up for that store's newsletters and new-release notices, delivered in-world. They look similar because both have a button on a profile, but they do completely different things, and you can use either, both, or neither.

The quickest way to remember it: following is about what you see on Primfeed; subscribing is about what arrives in Second Life.

Following someone

Following is Primfeed's feed relationship. When you follow a user or a store, their new posts start showing up in your Following feed and in the Public Gallery.

  1. Open the profile of the user or store you like.

  2. Click Follow (the button turns into Following once you're following them; hover it to see Unfollow).

Following works for both users and stores, so anyone can be followed. Their posts then appear, newest first, on your Feed page under the Following tab.

Tip: New to Primfeed and your Following feed looks empty? Head to the Discovery or Public Gallery page, find residents and stores you like, and follow them. Your feed fills up from there.

Subscribing to a store

Subscribing is a newsletter relationship, and it only exists for stores. You won't see a Subscribe button on a regular user's profile. When you subscribe, the store can send new releases and updates directly to your in-world Second Life avatar.

  1. Open the store's profile.

  2. Click Subscribe (it turns into Subscribed once you're subscribed; hover it to see Unsubscribe).

Tip: Some stores choose to turn off subscriptions. If a store has done that, you simply won't see a Subscribe button on its profile.
