Install Primfeed as an app
Add Primfeed to your phone's home screen or your computer to open it like an app, in its own window, with push notifications.

You can install Primfeed on your phone, tablet or computer so it opens like any other app: from its own icon, full screen, without the browser's address bar. Once installed, Primfeed can also send you push notifications when someone likes, comments, mentions or follows you, even when the app is closed.
Primfeed is not on the App Store or Google Play. It's a Progressive Web App (PWA): the website installs itself as an app straight from your browser. Nothing to download from a store, and it's always up to date.
The quickest way
On a phone or tablet, sign in at www.primfeed.com, open your account menu at the top right (your avatar) and tap Install the app.
On Android, this opens your browser's install prompt: tap Install.
On iPhone and iPad, it shows the steps below, because iOS doesn't let websites install themselves.
If you don't see the option, Primfeed is probably already installed, or your browser doesn't support installing apps. Follow the steps for your device below.
iPhone and iPad
Open www.primfeed.com in Safari.
Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up). In Safari it's at the bottom of the screen on iPhone, and at the top on iPad.
Scroll up or click “Show more” and tap Add to Home Screen.
Make sure Open as Web App is turned on if you see it, then tap Add.
Open Primfeed from your home screen and sign in.
On iOS, push notifications only work once Primfeed is added to your Home Screen and opened from there, not in a Safari tab. You need iOS 16.4 or later.
Android
Open www.primfeed.com in Chrome (Edge, Samsung Internet and most other browsers work the same way).
Tap the three dots menu next to the address bar.
Tap Install app or Add to Home screen.
Confirm by tapping Install.
Open Primfeed from your home screen or app drawer.
Computer (Windows, macOS, Linux)
Chrome or Edge
Open www.primfeed.com.
Click the install icon at the right end of the address bar (a small screen with a down arrow). If it isn't there, open the browser menu and look for Install Primfeed (Chrome: Cast, save and share › Install page as app; Edge: Apps › Install this site as an app).
Click Install. Primfeed opens in its own window and gets a shortcut in your Start menu, Dock or app launcher.
Safari on Mac
Open www.primfeed.com in Safari (macOS Sonoma or later).
In the menu bar, choose File › Add to Dock, then click Add.
Firefox on desktop can't install web apps. Use Chrome, Edge or Safari instead, or keep using Primfeed in a browser tab.
Turn on push notifications
The first time you open the installed app while signed in, Primfeed asks whether you want to enable notifications. Tap Enable, then allow notifications when your device asks.
If you tapped Not now, or want to change it later:
Open Settings › Notifications.
Under Push notifications, click Enable on this device.
In the same section, choose which notifications you want to receive.
Push notifications are set up per device: enable them on each phone, tablet or computer where you want to be notified.
How notifications work
Primfeed can let you know about new activity in three ways. You choose, for each type of notification, which of them you want.
In-app: the notification appears in Primfeed, under the bell and on your Notifications page.
In-world: a message is sent to your avatar in Second Life.
Push: an alert pops up on your phone, tablet or computer, even when Primfeed is closed, on every device where you enabled push notifications.
Your Notifications page
Click the bell to open your notifications. They're sorted by day, and similar activity is grouped together, so many likes on the same post show up as a single line.
Use the filters to show only Mentions, Comments, Likes, Follows, Reposts, Albums, Moderation or Security notifications. Each filter shows how many unread notifications it holds.
Clicking a notification takes you to the post, comment or profile it's about, and marks it as read.
Use the mark as read button to clear everything in the filter you're looking at in one go.
Notifications stay unread until you open them or mark them as read. If you'd rather clear your whole inbox as soon as you click the bell, go to Settings › Notifications › Inbox and set Mark all as read when opening to Enabled.
Choose what you receive, and where
Open Settings › Notifications. Under Notifications, each type of notification has three checkboxes: In-app, In-world and Push. Tick or untick them to choose how you're told about each one. Changes are saved straight away.
Notifications are grouped into Posts (likes, comments, reposts and quotes), Comments (likes and replies), Mentions, Followers, Shared albums (invitations, join requests, new posts and members), Moderation and Security (new devices signing in to your account).
Out of the box:
In-app and Push are on for everything.
In-world is off, except for New device connections, so you're warned in Second Life when a new device signs in to your account.
Some checkboxes can't be changed:
In-world is only available for new followers, mentions, quotes of your posts, moderation, new device connections and shared albums. Likes, comments and reposts can't be sent in-world.
Moderation notifications are always shown in-app, so you never miss a decision about your content or profile.
The Push column only applies to devices where you enabled push notifications (see Turn on push notifications above). Your choices apply to all your devices.
Notifications for your store
If you own or manage a store on Primfeed, its notifications (likes, comments, followers and so on for the store) have their own settings. Switch to the store account, then open Settings › Business Notifications. It works the same way as your personal settings.
These settings are personal: every owner and manager picks their own channels for the store, without changing what the rest of the team receives.

Make sure you're in Safari (on older iOS versions, other browsers can't add apps to the Home Screen) and not in a private tab. The option is in the Share sheet: scroll the list of actions down to find it.

Check that notifications are enabled in Primfeed's Settings › Notifications on this device.
Check that your phone or computer allows notifications for Primfeed (iPhone: Settings › Notifications › Primfeed; Android: long-press the Primfeed icon › App info › Notifications).
Focus or Do Not Disturb modes can silence them.
On iPhone, notifications only arrive in the installed app, not in Safari.

Remove Primfeed from your Home Screen (long-press the icon › Remove App), then add it again following the steps above, and re-enable notifications. This resets the app's setup on your phone.
How do I uninstall it?
How do I uninstall it?
Remove it like any other app: long-press the icon and choose Remove or Uninstall on a phone. On a computer, open the installed Primfeed window and use its menu (⋮) › Uninstall, or drag it out of the Dock on Mac. Your Primfeed account and posts are not affected.
