Profile visibility and whether you appear in search

Your profile visibility settings decide who can see your Primfeed profile and whether you turn up when residents search, and they live together in the Personalization tab of Settings. There are two separate controls: Profile visibility (Private or Public) decides whether logged-out residents can see your profile at all, and Show in search decides whether your profile appears in Primfeed's search results.

These are two different things, and it's worth keeping them straight: making your profile private hides it from everyone who isn't logged in, while turning off search only removes you from the search box. People who already have your link can still reach you.

Open your visibility settings

  1. Click your profile picture in the sidebar to open the account menu.

  2. Choose Settings (gear icon).

  3. In the Settings sidebar, under Account, click Personalization.

The settings here are grouped under Visibility, Tabs, and Layout. The two controls in this article live in the Visibility group. Every change saves the moment you pick it; there's no separate save button.

Set your profile to Private or Public

The Profile visibility dropdown has two options:

  • Private (the default): your profile is restricted to logged-in residents only. People who aren't signed in to Primfeed can't see your profile.

  • Public: your posts and pictures become visible to everyone, including residents who are browsing logged out.

Tip: When your profile is Public, logged-out visitors only see content rated General or Moderate. Anything you've posted at Adult or Adult+ stays hidden from people who aren't signed in, even on a public profile.

Choose whether you appear in search

The Show in search setting controls whether your profile turns up in Primfeed's search results.

  • Enabled (the default): your profile can appear when residents search.

  • Disabled: your profile is removed from search.

Tip: Turning this off doesn't make you invisible. Residents can still reach your profile from various places, for example from a direct link to your profile, or from your posts, comments, and mentions. It only takes you out of the search box.

Hide the "Open Second Life Profile" button

There's a third control in the same Visibility group: Open Second Life profile. This decides whether the Open Second Life Profile button shows on your profile page.

  • Visible: residents can click the button to open your Second Life profile.

  • Hidden: the button is removed from your profile.

One thing to know: even with this set to Hidden, residents can still see your Second Life username. This only hides the button, not your name.
